Master’s student Zoe Caryl earned a 2026 Graduate Research Fellowship in communication from the National Science Foundation. Caryl was the only fellowship recipient in the field of communication.
Caryl’s NSF-funded research will explore warning fatigue in recurring flash flood events, investigating how repeated warnings shape public trust and responsiveness even as forecasting improves. She will conduct qualitative interviews with flood-prone community residents and develop a nationwide survey to identify what message features resonate with impacted communities.
The fellowship program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing full-time research-based master's and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields, including STEM education.
