Victor (Syuan-Li) Renn is a second-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research interests include studying strategic communication initiated by authoritarian regimes, particularly in China, and its effects on the media and public in foreign democratic countries. Specifically, he seeks to answer the following three questions: 1) how an authoritarian regime produces strategic messages, 2) through what channels it disseminates these messages, and 3) whether these messages are effective on foreign audiences.
