Marian Huhman PhD
Marian Huhman joined the faculty of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Department of Communication in January 2009 after eight years as a researcher and evaluator of health campaigns at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. During her time at the CDC, she led the outcome evaluation of the VERB campaign, publishing over 20 papers about the VERB campaign. After joining the Department of Communication at UIUC, she taught a course she developed on social marketing in health and environmental contexts and a course on interpersonal health communication. Her research interests focused on using social marketing to promote behavior changes that benefit individuals and populations. Dr. Huhman retired from UIUC in 2016, but has remained active with selected student and environmental sustainability activities.

Professor Huhman applies theoretical and applied principles of social marketing and health communication to practical problems of health and society. She has extensive experience in the design and implementation of evaluations of health campaigns.
